I spent the Saturday in pain after a few hours of scrubbing down the bathroom with bleach, from top to bottom, left to right. As I suffer from a chronic back pain, going up and down the ladder, bending my back in dangerously bad position while scrubbing the grime off the floor tiles, landed me in paralyzing pain for the rest of the day.
Despite all that, the domesticated me feel very satisfied with a clean bathroom. The back pain is just something that I have learned to deal with, and you would think that I would avoid doing anything to trigger the pain. The truth is, I suffer more on mental level when I spot the dirt all over the bathroom. See, Singapore is high in humidity level, therefore, the moist areas dry really slowly, and causes mold to form. Fine, I am a little germaphobe too.
So, I was crippling – literally – after the cleaning ‘exercise’, for the rest of Saturday. If you don’t have the slightest idea of what the pain may feel like, this is what it is nearly like… If you have sprained your ankle before, you should remember how it is like with each step you take, or the pressure you exerted on the sprained ankle. It’s not just the excruciating pain, but also the sensation of strengthlessness. Our regular reflexes would naturally deflect strength away from the wounded area of our body, so it kind of throws you off balance. The thing about a problematic back is that it is affected in any position you are in – sit, walk, stand, or lying down. Well, otherwise, it’s really very manageable.
Later of the day, I decided to clean the aircon unit as the ‘maintenance’ light was lit up for days, and it gets into my head that the filter is probably packed with dirt. Humidity has a way to ‘glue’ the dirt in between the filter coils too, and getting them off is quite a chore!
So, that was my Saturday. Then come Sunday. I decided to use the day to finish up one order. By mid day, I was feeling really tired. My husband said, ‘It’s because you don’t know how to rest; by ‘rest’ I mean doing NOTHING’. What can I say, I am just.. addicted to work!
And this little guy is completed by evening, and ready to take off to his new home in Canada.
