tofu cube toy with a smiley face
This is a custom order for a Tofu aka bean curd cube toy.
The order is specific, and the buyer is extremely nice and easy to work with. I like specific instruction for custom orders; or leave it all to me. I know, I swing from the extremes.
The specific requirement is to have the Leaf Motif – logo, sewn on the top of the face. Of course, the logo has been provided to me. I think I did quite a nice job.
The basic requirement is to have the cube made to size of 3″. This is truly a personalized order, as the buyer requests for the specific text to be embroidered by the side of the face.
Different stitching and sewing techniques are used for the eyes, leaf motif, smile, and the words on the side. I don’t know the name of the techniques, since I don’t specialized in sewing or embroidery, but I guess they are more of ‘instincts’, only to achieve the exact results that I imagined in my head.
The methods used to sew the eyes and the leaf motif are quite different. One to achieve a ‘level’ impression; while the leaf motif is intended to create a more dimensional effect.
I did a quick sketch before working on the order. See, I am very literal when it comes to specific instructions. I needed to be sure if the ‘left’ is the actual left as we see it on the toy – mirroring image; or the left of the toy. I didn’t want to get it wrong.
It’s a long entwining story about me not having a scanner and the working scanner that is only operated with my husband’s computer. The sketch looks a little ‘skewed’ because it is taken using the camera and sometimes the angel is just a little off. Aside, it was a very quick sketch, as I only have very limited time in the morning to do everything else besides the actual crafting.
I am very satisfied with the result. The smiley expression is quite identical to the image that the buyer sent me.
